Our herd is made up of purebred dairy goats selected with purpose and care. At The Tart Farm, our producing does and yearling does form the foundation of our breeding program. Because each doe plays a role in the future of the herd, we evaluate them for sound structure, dairy potential, overall health, and steady temperaments.
The Does

Nessa
Nessa is a petite purebred Nubian doe and one of the original foundations of The Tart Farm herd. She was a first freshener in 2026 and delivered twin bucklings, marking the beginning of her work as a producing dairy doe. Calm, steady, and rarely hurried, Nessa brings a grounding presence to the group. While her unbothered nature can make urgency feel like a matter for later discussion, that same temperament helps anchor the more excitable girls around her.

Elle
Ellie is a feisty F4 Mini-Nubian doe, first freshened in 2026 with twin bucklings. She is an attentive mother, a useful milker, and a bold, people-loving pasture personality with flashy sundgau coloring and heavy moonspots.

Sage
Our newest young doe is a little yearling with strong dairy lines and a very large voice. She appears mostly white, though her base color is black with heavy white overlay. She has small touches of brown that add a little extra detail. She is currently in quarantine before joining Nessa and Ellie. Although she startles easily right now, she is very sweet with people. We hope she settles once she has full-time goat company again. If all goes well, she may join the milking lineup in 2027.
The Bucks

Mani Moon
Mani Moon is our polled Mini-Nubian buck and the sire behind our first kids at The Tart Farm. He is chocolate and tan with moonspots, white splashes, a white belt, and a white poll. Mani has a gentle, people-friendly nature and lives peacefully with other goats. He even adjusted quickly when his bucklings moved in with him. However, he does believe visitors arrive with treats. He will follow closely and offer helpful nose nudges until proven wrong. So far, Mani has sired two sets of twin bucklings.
We look for goats that can support a small, productive herd over time. While some of our does are already proven milkers, others are promising young yearlings still growing into their future roles. Together, they represent the direction of our dairy herd in Western North Carolina. In addition, each doe brings her own strengths, personality, and place within the herd.
Careful selection starts long before a goat joins the farm. First, we take time to review pedigrees and consider the traits behind each animal. Then, we look at structure, breed character, production potential, and temperament. With purebred dairy goats, those details matter because they help guide responsible breeding decisions. As a result, every addition to the herd is chosen with both the present and future in mind.
Browse each of the goats above for photos, pedigree information, birth dates, and individual herd notes. You can also search for them to locate posts about each. As our herd continues to grow, these girls will remain an important part of The Tart Farm’s future.
